Mighty Lockscreen

One of the things missing in OSX is a simple key combo to lock your screen instantly. Windows users press ‘windowskey-L’ and walk away happily, while we have to click on the keychain icon, lock screen or mess around with icons and symlinks, resulting in miles of useless mouse action.

Today I tuned it a bit, now I use the keys on my Mighty Mouse and just squeeze it to lock my screen. So what I actually did was:

1. Create a symlink to the screensaver

  • Open Finder and go to Applications, Utilities, Terminal.app
  • Copy/paste this into the opened terminal:
  • ln -s /System/Library/Frameworks/ScreenSaver.framework/Versions/A/Resources/ScreenSaverEngine.app Applications/screensaver.app

2. Configure Mighty Mouse

  • Open your Preferences Panel
  • Click on Keyboard & Mouse
  • Go to the Mouse tab
  • click on the selection box of the squeeze buttons and choose “other”
  • Go to your applications folder and choose screensaver.app
